The Inaugural Address of the 25th President of KSTP

Fellow members of the Korean Society For Technology of Plasticity and materials processing,

I am Heon Young Kim who has been entrusted with the important responsibily as the 25th president. After 32 years since 1991, when I aided my adviser and founder Prof. Dong-Won Kim as the youngest promoter in establishing the society, I am immensely honored to now assume the responsibility as the 25th president.

As president, I will earnestly work to inherit and develop the long tradition of the society based on the achievements made by the former presidents and members.

Starting from this year, the name of our society was changed from ‘the Korean Society For Technology of Plasticity(KSTP)’ to ‘the Korean Society For Technology of Plasticity and materials processing(KSTP)’. The name change will signal the society’s leap forward as a world-class academic society as we will be expanding our roles and networks from the traditional plastic processing fields.

First of all, the society will actively respond to social changes by expanding and reorganizing subcommittees while discovering and revitalizing small groups by research subject, region, and generation to promote exchanges among members and enhance expertise.

Secondly, in order to make work more convenient and efficient, we will strive to improve the society's system by establishing an online-oriented work system. The society’s homepage will be upgraded along with the thesis submission process for the convenience of both members and the secretariat.

Thirdly, we will expand exchanges and cooperation with domestic and foreign institutions and organizations. We will actively discover partners and further expand opportunities for industry-academia cooperation with related institutions and organizations so that the leading research achievements of our members could expand.

Furthermore, we will strengthen the internationalization capabilities of the society by building a joint research network with overseas academic societies such as ICTP and JSTP through exchanges and cooperation. Moreover, we will work to enhance our members' academic activities and international status by holding international academic events.

We ask for all the members as well as academics’ interest and support, as well as active cooperation and participation as we work together in advancing Korean Society For Technology of Plasticity and materials processing. As I carry out my duties during my tenure as president, I will always adhere to the opinions of our members and reflect them as best to my ability.

I wish all the members the very best and happiness in 2023. As we progress into a new year, I hope for good health, happiness and success for our member’s and dear ones. Happy New Year.
